KNOW YOUR FAMILY HISTORY ... LIKE ANGELINA

-

Angelina Jolie made the brave decision to have a double mastectomy. She is a carrier for the BRCA1 gene and was told she had a 87% risk of breast cancer. Around 5% of breast cancer cases are caused by a faulty gene passed through families. You may be at higher risk if your family history includes more than two close relatives on one side of the family with either breast or ovarian cancer (especially if diagnosed at a young age and in both breasts). If you have a family history, talk to your doctor about screening options and risk reduction.
