Re­strict­ing fluid to pre­vent an over­ac­tive or hy­per­sen­si­tive blad­der – recog­nised by a sud­den and un­con­trol­lable urge to uri­nate – can make it worse, ac­cord­ing to Sue.

“Drink 1.5 to 2 litres of fluid a day to help flush your kid­neys,” she ad­vises. “If you’ve got a leaky blad­der, you’re bet­ter off main­tain­ing healthy kid­ney func­tion and urine out­put be­cause you’re go­ing to leak any­way.”
