LET’S GET BUSY!

The multi talented star is taking over the late-night television circuit

- ENTERTAINMENT WRITER ELLEN MACKENZIE

Move over, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert – there’s a woman on the late-night talk-show scene! Actress, producer and author Busy Philipps has added yet another string to her bow with her very own chat show. The IFeelPretty star talks

with Woman’sDay about feminism, being a mum and her love of New Zealand.

What’s different about your chatshow?

We just wanted to create a really fun late-night talk show that was for everyone. We want it to be a little treat for you at the end of the night, something to unwind to with a glass of wine and a nice chat with your friend – me!

Did you always dream of having your own show?

No, but I love talking to people and finding out their stories, so it felt like the right thing for me to be doing. There also aren’t that many women who get an opportunity in late-night TV, so why not me? That’s why I wanted to do this show, specifically because I feel like there’s a real desire to have a place for women in late-night television. The space is only occupied by men traditionally. I met a girl last week, actually, when I was on my book tour. Since she was six years old, she’s wanted to be a latenight talk-show host, but there are no women, so her mum brought her to meet me. I hope people like that girl can watch my show and be inspired seeing a woman doing it.

How important is it to make sure you’ re a strong role model to your two youngdaughters?

It’s something I definitely think about a lot. I’ve always been

a feminist and my mother raised me to be that way. It’s the kind of values that I want to instill in both my daughters.

What has your career highlight been so far?

Aside from taking on this new step with the talk show, I would say that writing my book, This Will Only Hurt a Little, was an incredible accomplishment for me. I put a lot of work into it and it’s something I’m really proud of.

Would you ever come and visit your fans here?

I’d love to! I’ve always wanted to go, ever since I was a little girl and my best friend Emily took a trip to Australia and New Zealand. The pictures from New Zealand were just incredible. It started a lifelong love of the kiwi bird that my best friend Emily and I share. So yes, I need to come see a kiwi in real life! I want to bring my kids with me. I can’t wait.
