Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s letter

- SIDO KITCHIN EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, WOMAN’S DAY

At Woman’sDay, we love to celebrate and there are plenty of reasons to rejoice in this week’s issue. We were invited to share in two beautiful weddings on the same day – those of Silver Fern Katrina Grant and actress Anna Hutchison.

Our team winged its way to Welly to see Katrina marry her man Joel Rore in a day full of laughter – and a few sentimental tears. I love that our Ferns vice-captain wore white Gucci sneakers under her lovely lace gown!

And rain couldn’t dampen the elated spirits of Shortland Street and GoGirls star Anna when she wed her Bostonborn beau on Waiheke Island. With many guests flying in from the US, the abundance of beauty and love at the joyful wedding more than made up for the weather.

I can’t believe Coronation Street hottie Kym Marsh is celebrating becoming a grandmother at 42 – she’s over the moon! I’m five years older than Kym at 47, so I definitely blinked when I did the math and I guess theoretically I could be a nana too, but I’m happy to wait another 20 years thanks!

This week, I was honoured to be asked to present at the inaugural LGBTI Awards in Auckland. It was the most fun I’ve had out in a long time and a wonderful opportunity for members of New Zealand’s rainbow community to have their achievements acknowledged in a very public way.

At Woman’sDay, we strive to reflect diversity in our pages and sharing personal stories from the LGBTI community is a great way to celebrate role models and encourage acceptance. We want to promote a world where everyone in New Zealand is free to be their true selves. I sat at the awards on my own but left with wonderful new friendships.

And Christmas, the ultimate time for celebration, is just around the corner – only a few weeks to go! This issue has more delicious recipes, fab fashion looks, ideas for decorating and budget tips for the festive season.

Have a great week, guys!
