Lady Gaga may have ruled the Golden Globes red carpet in her voluminous Valentino gown, but it was Glenn Close who took home the Best Drama Actress trophy the pop star was favoured to win.
Star of TheWife, the veteran actress – who has won just two Globes after 14 nominations – paid tribute to her mother in her acceptance speech, saying, “Women, we’re nurturers and that’s what’s expected of us, but we have to find personal fulfilment. We have to follow our dreams.”
Best Comedy Actress winner Olivia Colman – who wore Ugg boots under her Stella McCartney gown at the after-parties – gave a more comedic speech, referring to her TheFavourite co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz as “ma bitches”.
The Broadchurch star, who gained 16kg to play obese Queen Anne and is now an Oscar favourite, said of her role, “I had a f***ing blast. I went on a private jet and I ate constantly throughout the film.”
