Brand it like Beckham

Anxious Meghan’s Posh advisor

-

She’s put palace noses out of joint by insisting on having her baby on her own terms, but the Duchess of Sussex has a secret ally cheering her on from the sidelines – Victoria Beckham!

Since tying the knot with Prince Harry last year, Meghan has been hit by a never-ending stream of negative publicity and found herself on the wrong side of almost everyone, from her family back in the States to her new sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.

And late last year, it was reported her fledging friendship with the former Spice Girl was on the rocks, with Posh fuming the glam new royal never showcased the outfits she sent her.

But over the past few months, with Meghan recently rocking many of the designer’s couture creations, the pair have become so close that the ex- Suits actress now counts the fashionista among her best friends.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time for Meghan,” a well-placed source reveals. “Since her fall-out with Kate, she’s been lonely and Victoria’s been there for her. She’s been leaning on her more and more.”

And it’s not just moral support that Posh, 44, has been able to give Meghan, 37, who’s due to give birth to her first child any day now – the former pop star has also been helping her pal to create “Brand Sussex” in the same vein as Brand Beckham.

“Meghan wants to ensure she’s in complete control of her kids’ futures, separating them from William and Kate’s children as much as possible to ensure they have their own identities,” says our source. “Of course, she wants them all to be great friends, but she realises it’s important they aren’t forced to follow the strict traditions that the royals in direct line to the throne are expected to follow.”

Building Brand Sussex will help create different expectations of her children compared to their cousins and launching the family’s own Instagram account was the first step.

Claims our source, “Victoria hopes it will help quell the unbearable backlash that Meghan’s been struggling with. She’s made her friend understand that she’s seen as the A-list royal splashing out on lavish baby showers, and that she needs to be able to connect with the public by sharing things that are more personal and relatable.”

Now that Meghan and Harry, 34, have moved into the revamped Frogmore Cottage, distancing themselves even further from his brother and Kate, Posh is also the one who’s stepped in to swap interior-design tips, with the mum-of-four also dishing out advice on how to manage motherhood in the spotlight.

“Vic’s even given Meghan some precious keepsakes she’d kept from when she had Harper,” tells our source. “Meghan’s deeply humbled by her support and has tried to repay her kindness by offering advice on how to manage her kids’ Hollywood dreams. Cruz, in particular, is really keen on acting and that’s something she knows plenty about.”
