You don’t have to rely on Gossip Girl to heart he rum ours about these two!
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds seem to define couple goals. “All day long, we joke around and poke fun at each other,” the actress has said of her idyllic life with her leading man. “He’s my best, best friend. That’s what I appreciate about our relationship – I think that’s the secret to our happiness.”
But behind closed doors, things aren’t as rosy as they sound. Blake, 31, and Ryan, 42, put up a “perfect facade, but there are some dark secrets in their marriage”, an insider claims, adding that after six years as husband and wife, those “secrets and lies are threatening to wreck the life they’ve created”.
Not only has there been jealousy and resentment over their careers, but “there have been rumours that Ryan may have cheated on Blake with a 20-something woman in LA”, alleges the source, adding that the whispers have caused tension in their relationship.
“Blake and Ryan are going through hell right now,” says our insider. “They’re not getting along and both are on edge. Everyone’s hoping they can resolve things before they get to the point of no return.”
Friends are shocked, tells the insider, because “the first chapter of their relationship could have been ripped from a romance novel”.
In fact, the couple – who met on the set of 2011’s Green Lantern – admitted that their chemistry was so intense, they slept together on their first date. By September 2012, after less than a year together, they were married and had traded life in glitzy LA for a sleepy town in New York state.
“They knew it would be the perfect place to raise a family out of the spotlight,” our insider says of the pair, who soon welcomed daughters James, four, and Inez, two. “Neither wanted to become another celebrity couple whose marriage quickly falls apart, especially since Ryan’s been through it before.”
Cracks appear
Ryan – whose two-year marriage to Scarlett Johansson, 34, came to an end in 2010 – and Blake were both at career highs when they started dating, but while the actor’s star kept soaring, his new love’s success stalled.
“During GossipGirl, she was on top, but many of her recent movies have been flops and her name hardly ever comes up in casting meetings any more,” says the insider. “But Ryan gets to travel around the world and rub shoulders with A-list actors and directors, while Blake’s at home taking care of the kids.”
Pulling them apart even more are the whispers that Deadpool star Ryan strayed with a young woman in LA. While Blake usually shrugs off these types of rumours, “this one won’t go away”, adds the insider. “No woman ever wants to hear that her husband may have cheated. No-one could blame her for feeling betrayed.”
Now it’s slowly becoming apparent that something is up. “It seems like Ryan and Blake have been living separate lives for the last three months,” the insider says of the pair, who haven’t been photographed together in public since January 10, when they attended a screening of Mary PoppinsReturns New York. “Ryan is known for being such a jokester, but friends have noticed that he’s been a lot quieter lately.”
Some are speculating that the actor may be going through some sort of midlife crisis. “He’s tried so hard to keep Blake happy, and to be as good a husband and father as he can possibly be – all while maintaining his leading-man status in Hollywood,” says our insider. “But it’s hard balancing it all and it’s taking a toll on his marriage.”
Still, friends are hopeful that Ryan and Blake will make it through. “At the end of the day, they do really love and care about each other,” explains the insider. “This may be a major bump in the road, but everyone is very optimistic that they can work through it.”
