Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Whatever your politics may be, turning 50 is a milestone to be fully celebrated – and Paula Bennett has more reason to rejoice than most, with her 2017 gastric band surgery leaving our former deputy PM feeling fitter, healthier and happier than she has in years.

And she looks incredible too (I’m wondering if those yellow pants come in men’s sizes?). Good on Paula for stretching out the festivities with not one, not two, but three parties.

I can certainly relate. After six years of fun at Woman’sDay (it seems churlish to mention the blood, sweat and tears!), I’m about to start my dream job as editor of our sister magazine NW. I couldn’t be more excited, but it does mean I’ll be moving to Sydney, leaving behind lots of beloved friends, whanau and colleagues.

The silver lining is the resulting festival of goodbye dinners, drinks and catchups. As I write this, I’m gearing up for a long lunch nch with a couple of my closest est

co-workers, followed by a big farewell party for my mates. And on my last day, there’s the official Woman’s Day leaving do, a Mexicanthemed fiesta with tacos and margaritas. I may need to splash out on a new liver upon arrival in Australia.

Anyway, I just want to thank everyone in the office for putting up with my nonsense for so long, especially editor-in-chief Sido, who has taught me almost everything I know about making amazing magazines in the many years we’ve worked together. And thank you, dear readers, for your support and loyalty. We couldn’t do this without you.

Haere ra and have a great Easter. SEBAS SEBASTIAN VAN DER Z ZWAN DEPUTY EDITOR EDITOR, WOMAN WOMAN’S DAY
