He’s one of the most recognisable stars on
GameofThrones, but even Nikolaj CosterWaldau was forced to play the guessing game about what would happen in the epic final season.
“I actually got half of it right,” he boasts with a cheeky little grin. “I still haven’t seen anyone online get it right. I mean, the whole thing.”
While his lips are sealed on the fate of his character and who will win the Iron Throne, he does admit it was a hard day when filming finally came to an end.
“It was the perfect ending. I shot in this beautiful location. Obviously, I have to be careful here – it was the most beautiful place in Northern Ireland. We had this amazing scene we’d been shooting for a couple days. It ended. The sun was setting. It was really spectacular,” he recalls.
“I kept telling myself, ‘Listen, don’t start getting all teary-eyed. It’s just a job, it’s just a job, just move on.’ And then they started talking and, I don’t know ... I got a bit of sand in my eye.”
Nikolaj is also quick to assure fans that they will be satisfied by the ending. “It’s the final season, so you would imagine we would move towards some resolution when it comes down to the major questions.”
The producers have gone to serious lengths this year to keep the story a secret, with Nikolaj revealing, “In the past when you needed to remember what had happened to your character, you could go back and find the scripts. Now, literally, the script has vanished. It no longer exists.”
So what has he learnt from this crazy acting experience that has shot him to fame?
“I’m better on a horse, for sure – and better using my left hand too,” he laughs.
