Fit, fab and 40!
New mum Kate’s lost the weight and is rarin’ to build an empire
It’s been only six months since Kate Hudson gave birth to baby number three – not that you can tell by looking at her. The bubbly blonde appeared toned, taut and, most importantly, happy as she modelled her new eco-friendly clothing line in early April.
The A-lister, who celebrated her milestone 40th on April 19, is having the time of her life, with two fashion lines, her new gig with Weight Watchers and a fresh movie in the works, Blood
Money, co-starring Zac Efron. Kate also has her hands full with her “little rosebud”, Rani Rose, her baby with musician Danny Fujikawa, 32, who she’s been seeing for two years.
“Kate’s in a great place in her life and is very comfortable entering a new decade,” a source tells Woman’sDay.
Seeing pals like Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon and
Jennifer Garner flourishing after 40, “Kate’s happy to be joining the club,” adds the insider. “She doesn’t worry about wrinkles or grey hair. She feels like everything gets better with age.”
All this multitasking isn’t easy, but Kate – who’s also mum to sons Ryder, 15, from her seven-year marriage to Chris Robinson, and Bingham, seven, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy – wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Having a newborn and going through the baby stage has definitely been a shock after such a long break,” our source tells. “But Kate’s been loving this experience and getting to share it with Danny. He’s extremely hands-on, so it’s been a dream.”
The star also leans on her brother, SplittingupTogether actor Oliver Hudson, 42, whose home is a short drive from Kate’s Pacific Palisades mansion.
“She doesn’t have all three kids at once because the boys spend a ton of time there,” explains the pal, adding that Kate’s also made it easier on herself by staying on good terms with her exes – a lesson she learnt from
her own mother, Goldie Hawn.
Kate tells, “When I see my friends talking s*** about their ex-spouses in front of their kids, I get so upset. No matter what, I never heard a bad word about my birth father from my mom.”
Our source continues, “She sees Matt a lot with Bing, who also has separate time with his dad. Chris lives in Northern California, but comes down to visit because Kate supports Ryder having a positive relationship with his dad.”
However, the actress misses her kids when she’s not with them. “She has mom guilt sometimes, but they’re happy and surrounded by love and a big family,” explains our source. “That’s what’s most important to her.”
Kate also carves out time for her entrepreneurial ventures – her activewear label Fabletics now rakes in more than $450 million annually – and her love life with Danny.
The guitarist gushes, “She does things that 99.9% of other people can’t do because they don’t have the willpower, the strength or the wherewithal – and she’s done it tenfold. But most importantly, she’s an amazing person in her heart and soul. That’s really where it counts.”
While that’s undoubtedly true, having an amazing body doesn’t hurt either. The famously fit Kate – who put on 32kg with both of her first pregnancies – shed her 11kg post-baby bump this time around by literally working her butt off.
“As she’s gotten older, she’s definitely noticed differences in her body and has had to work very hard to lose the baby weight,” our source says. “She knows what she has to do and sticks to the plan. She works out five or six days a week with a trainer who comes to her house, doing Pilates, yoga, ab work, pushups and circuit training.
“She also goes hiking in the mountains with her dogs and brings Rani along in a carrier. The weight hasn’t fallen off like before. It’s taken a while, but she’s happy with the results.”
Kate’s work-life balance – which she’s figured out over the years by “trial and error” – also includes date nights with Danny and frequent get-togethers with gal pals.
“Even if they just hang out at someone’s house for a glass of wine, she always has lots of laughs,” says our source. “Kate can see the big picture. She doesn’t get worked up about things and knows that whatever difficulties come up will eventually pass. She’s too busy enjoying every day.”
