Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Kate’s fierce, fabulous look really brings the drama!

-

After a tough break-up last year, International Picture Editor Kate Dwek is embarking on a “Year of Me”, which has included competing in a brutal ocean swim and heading off on a solo trip to Greece. “I have been

swimming a lot, so I know my hair is suffering from all the chlorine and salt water,” she says. “My hair is so hard to manage and I don’t think it ever looks good, so 99% of the time, I wear it up. I’ve always wanted to know how to do a smoky eye as well.”

KATE’S VERDICT

“One of the best parts for me was having my hair done. It was so relaxing and even more fun with the other girls there. I loved all the make-up as well. I look so different! I felt like a bad-ass rocker chick. I need to get the long brown dress – I just loved it – and the boots too. I felt like a million bucks all done up in that. The makeover was just the boost I needed – I’d forgotten I actually can look glamorous!”

MAKE-UP – CHAY ROBERTS

A dark and dramatic smoky eye looks even better when it complements your eye colour – purples here make the green of Kate’s hazel eyes pop. When doing a smoky eye, apply your shadow before foundation. This means any fallout can be easily wiped away. Luminous nude lips are the perfect accompaniment to a strong eye look.

HAIR – ALEX BAROLO FROM DRY & TEA

Alex created a new look that could be easily maintained, while keeping the length, as Kate’s been trying to grow her locks out. To match her skin tone, Alex chose a colour that created warmth throughout the hair, then added a cooler base with warm highlights, ideal for framing Kate’s face and making her complexion pop. The shade gave her the best of both worlds as she really didn’t want anything ashy.

FASHION – LEIGH MATHESON

“Kate has a hidden tigress inside that I wanted to pull to the surface and this dictated the pieces I styled her in. For her glam look, we’re showing off her killer legs in this retro-feel sequin dress. The daytime animal and chain print dress with puffed shoulders skims her silhouette, with a bold snakeprint coming through in the boots.”
