Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s letter

- SOPHIE NEVILLE EDITOR-AT-LARGE, WOMAN’S DAY

This week’s mag is all about amazing makeovers and none more so than Adele, who was barely recognisable when she stepped out at a Spice Girls concert last week. After splitting with her husband earlier this year, she’s dropped more than 10kg thanks to pilates classes with her BFF Ayda Field (aka Mrs Robbie Williams). Good on her for finding what works.

Like Adele, I’ve recently taken up exercise for pretty much the first time in my life and it’s not easy being a novice!

On the morning of my first bootcamp class – run by a fellow school mum who also happens to be a trainer extraordinaire – I was shaking in my brandnew sneakers. I was sure everyone would notice the fact I didn’t know the difference between a burpee and a star jump. But one month in, I’m a convert. My body might ache in places I didn’t know existed, but I am starting to feel a little fitter and quite a lot stronger. Which is good, because in October I’ll need all the fitness I can muster

as I’m ringing in my 40th birthday on the Milford Track. It’ll be a very different celebration to my 30th in a London pub (which, let’s be honest, I can barely remember), but it feels like the right time to take on a challenge.

And I’m not the only Woman’sDay team member aiming for a transformation – on pages 54-59, our writer Ellen, picture editor Kate and chief sub-editor Sheryn debut the results of their own fab makeovers, masterminded by our fashion guru Leigh and beauty editor Amy.

At this time of year, it’s easy to feel a little ho-hum, but there’s nothing like a day of pampering to lift the spirits and they were thrilled about their fresh new looks.

Have a great week!
