Nicole and Keith’s shock split
Aromantic Italian holiday following weeks apart should have made for a blissful reunion for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, but instead their European getaway was fraught with tension and explosive arguments.
Now sources claim their make-or-break holiday has confirmed what they both feared – their 13-year marriage is in serious trouble.
Alarm bells were ringing even before they touched down for their child-free getaway after a tense appearance at the Global Ocean Gala in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Known for their lovey-dovey displays of affection on the red carpet, this time Keith looked loath to pose alongside his wife, forcing her to plaster on a smile and have pictures taken solo.
“It was so awkward,” says an onlooker. “It would have been better if Keith had just stayed at home because he did nothing to hide the fact he didn’t want to be there. He didn’t just look fed up, he looked angry, as though they were still in the middle of a massive argument.”
Another source claims their latest fight started at the luxury hotel they were staying at, where things are thought to have got so bad between them, they stayed in separate rooms.
“Whispers were that Keith booked himself another room to get away from Nicole,” says the insider. “He didn’t want to go to Monaco in the first place and she pretty much dragged him there, and then all they did was argue.
“When he has a break from touring – like now – he just wants them to live a normal life at home, but she insists on going to all these paid appearances around the world and he’s expected to tag along.
“They hadn’t seen each other for more than six weeks and then when they do get time together, Nicole makes it about work.”
It’s surprising considering
the couple once famously declared that two weeks is too long to be apart, with Nicole saying, “We like one week. We start to hurt after seven days.”
The insider says Nicole, 52, booked the Italian leg of their trip in a bid to make things up to Keith, 51, but relations were so strained between them that it was far from fun.
“Keith looked like a man who was ‘done’,” alleges the source. “He looked completely defeated, as if he just wanted the trip to be over.”
Which the informer believes is a lot like the way he feels about his marriage right now.
“It’s one fight after another, and it’s completely and utterly draining,” claims the insider. “Keith feels Nicole doesn’t trust him and wants to constantly keep an eye on him. Even when he’s away on tour, she suffocates him by checking in on him.”
Even though she helped him get sober 12 years ago, Nicole can’t help but harbour fears that Keith might fall off the wagon, and her doubts have started to drive a wedge between the pair, who share daughters Sunday, 11, and Faith, eight. “Nicole seems to be tightening the reins and Keith can’t help but feel she’s controlling him.”
But when it comes to Nicole’s life, Keith feels like she shuts him out. Her recent claim that her two children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, Isabella and Connor, chose Scientology over her, apparently came as a surprise to Keith, who had no clue she was going to make that public.
Nicole made the revelation during an interview to promote her film TheGoldfinch, saying, “Motherhood is about the journey. There are going to be incredible peaks and valleys, whether you are an adopting mother or a birth mother. What a child needs is love.
“They have made choices to be Scientologists. It’s our job as a parent to always offer unconditional love. It’s not about anything else other than, ‘I’m here to love and support you.’”
As followers of the church, Isabella, 26, and Connor, 24, reportedly have minimal contact with Nicole, and the
BigLittleLies actress has struggled for years with the realisation she might never see them again. But making her personal struggle so public shocked Keith to the core.
“Nicole didn’t tell Keith what she was planning to say and that stung,” claims the source. “Nicole feels like Keith doesn’t support her, but how can he when she doesn’t tell him what’s going on?
“The constant stress of their heated arguments is taking its toll on both of them. Nicole is thinner than ever and Keith is worn out from all the fighting. The way things are going, nobody would be surprised if they decided to call it quits once and for all.”
