Step into Henry’ s magical new world
Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s popular fantasy novels, new Netflix series The Witcher is already being compared to GameofThrones.
ManofSteel’s Henry Cavill stars as the hero and while fans of the books – and the comics video games that followed – are eager to see the story on screen, nobody’s more excited than Henry himself.
“I really enjoy playing these kinds of games and reading these kinds of books in my spare time,” he tells. “I don’t consider it a job. For me it is more like an extraordinary opportunity to live myy childhood and adult fantasies.”
The 36-year-old plays Geralt of Rivia, a supernaturally gifted Witcher. Faster and stronger than the average man, he has heightened senses, rapid healing abilities and has been n trained to ruthlessly slay the demons that plague his land.
But Geralt isn’t all swords and fighting – he also has a heart of gold. His softer side comes out once he meets sheltered Princess Ciri (Freya a Allan) and sorceress-intraining Yennefer (Anya Chalotra). The three come together to form an unlikely family as they navigate their dangerous world.
“I wanted to make a show about family,” says showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. “It’s about Geralt, Ciri and Yen … that’s what I care about most.”
Filled with action-packed packe battle scenes, Henry opted not to use a stuntman.
“I’m not a complete strastranger when it comes to swords,” he explains. “It was all about letting l g it fly and relying on my physicality, applying it to the love of fantasy I have,” he explains. “I’ve lived in the genre since I was a kid and it’s my jam.”
With a second season already confirmed, many wonder if Henry’s busy schedule means he won’t return to his role as Superman. And while he remains tight-lipped, he did tease, “There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
