Renée Zellweger’s career is on a high after winning a Golden Globe as well as Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice awards for her role in Judy, but behind the scenes things are a little more complicated!
The actress – who may win her fourth gong at the upcoming Academy Awards – is involved in a love triangle with former co-stars Tom Cruise and Colin Firth.
Over the last year her relationship with Tom, 57, has reignited after the man who “had me at hello” sent her a sweet note and gift to mark her 50th birthday in April.
And a source reveals that Tom was Renée’s rock after her split in May from US musician Doyle Bramhall II, who she’d been seeing for seven years.
“Renée even flew to the UK on several occasions when Tom was filming there to spend time with him and get away from the painful memories in Los Angeles,” tells a source.
The unlucky-in-love star, who has previously dated Bradley Cooper and Jim Carrey, is also open to exploring Scientology with her JerryMaguire co-star, with the insider claiming Renée
“even attended a meeting with him and his son Connor last year, excitedly telling friends how she was interested in continuing to learn about the religion back in LA”.
The source adds, “Tom’s recently revealed he’s got feelings for her and is keen to help her fulfil her dream of becoming a mum. After years of fighting off the chemistry and love they both have for one another, he’s open to adopting a child with her.”
Renée acknowledged their special bond in her acceptance speech for Best Actress at the SAG Awards last week, thanking him “for your example of professionalism on set and striving for excellence and generosity
and unconditional kindness”.
But it’s believed her heart is torn as she’s also developed feelings for another former co-star – dashing Colin Firth, 59. The stars of the Bridget Jones franchise have become closer since the father-ofthree split from his wife of 22 years, Livia Giuggioli.
“Renée’s yearning to have a child and that’s something Colin has made clear he can’t help her with,” alleges the insider. “So pals have urged her to pursue Tom in the hope she’ll fulfil her dream of having a family.”
