LAYERING
Could this beach house any more incredible?
If texture is the icing, layering is the construction of the cake. It pulls a room together to make it feel complete and give it personality.
There are many ways to introduce this look. Try layering rugs of the same colour scheme and material, but with different shapes. Or select different colours, materials and prints to create a more vivid look. More than just adding a snuggly, lived-in touch to your space, layered rugs also act as extra insulation – a bonus for bare feet.
Of course, the most obvious and simplest way to add layering is through cushions and throws, which are an interior designer’s best friends.
Try dividing each area for the layering and work in small steps, gradually adding objects to the room. Start with a clean canvas of just furniture, then think about the flooring and work up from there. When most of the product has been positioned, take a step back, check the overall look, then add the finishing decorative touches, such as plants and art pieces.
The most important rule is not to clutter the space with too many objects.
Friends alum Matthew Perry is bidding farewell to his Malibu beach house. e funnyman, 51, describes this four-bedroom, three-bathroom property (which he bought in 2011) as “kick-ass” – and it’s easy to see why!
Floor-to-ceiling windows o er uninterrupted views of the Paci c Ocean, while the patios make for a cosy sanctuary to take in the sunset and sea breeze.
e loft-style, two-storey oozes charm with exposed beams across the ceilings, which complement the bespoke cabinetry in the living area and the bedrooms.
e actor spent much of California’s COVID-19 lockdown hauled up here (half his luck!), and says he passed the time baking cookies in his galley kitchen, curling up around the re pit, watching movies in the home cinema and enjoying a dip in the secluded outdoor hot tub.
It’s quite the upgrade from his New York apartment on Friends, right?!
