kath&kim are back!

Look at moi, ploise... The comedy queens are returning for an all-new series

-

It’s been 20 long years since our favourite hornbags, Kath Day-Knight and Kim Craig, began swanning around Fountain Lakes – but Woman’s Day can exclusively reveal the foxymorons are making a tizzy return!

Top TV insiders reveal a brand-new Kath & Kim production is underway as negotiations play out between producers and the show’s famous Aussie cast, including comedy legends Jane Turner, Gina Riley and Magda Szubanski.

ANNOUNCEMENT SOON

The new series is set to air in 2023, with the real-life neighbours of the house used for Kath and Kim’s home, in Melbourne’s Patterson Lakes, confirming there have been several visits to the iconic abode that was the Day-Knight family’s residence.

With crew making multiple trips to the famous set, “it was unimaginable neighbours could keep TV’s biggest secret under wraps much longer”, tells a source.

Insiders say production will start later this year and assure us there is plenty of material to work with. This is the longest break the show has had since the series began in 2012 and we’re told there will be heaps of laughs to be had, with Kath and Kel’s marriage entering a new phase, and little Epponnee-Rae now a teenager. And no doubt Sharon’s dating woes have only amplified in this app era!

Now streaming on Netflix, the iconic Australian series has a cult following in New Zealand and wide overseas appeal, and is likely to make its big return on the streaming giant.

All of the cast – including Glenn Robbins (Kel) and Peter Rowsthorn (Brett) – are said to be on the same page about the new venture and feel it’s the right time to bring it back.

The last time the cast and crew were together was for the Kath & Kimderella movie in 2012, which made fans laugh and grossed more than $6 million at the Aussie box office, but it was a critical flop, with just 26% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Expect the girls to be more comfortable in the 30-minute format and that the show will be very much back to basics,” teases a source, who says an official announcement is expected in May.
