In years gone by, the traditional balcony appearance has seen even the most fringe royal family members cramming into the front of Buckingham Palace to catch a glimpse of the RAF flypast – and have a chance to be pictured with the sovereign and her heirs.
But after declaring that only select working family members will get the invite this time around, several Windsor noses are out of joint.
“It was to be expected that Prince Andrew would be out given he was stepped down, as much as he doesn’t see it that way. But it was rather a shock to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, along with Meghan and Harry, to be snubbed,” says an insider.
“There have no doubt been a lot of furious phone calls and texts between the Yorks and the Sussexes.”
