SPAT IN THE CITY

-

When Cynthia Nixon put her hand up to direct episodes of Sex And The City spin-off And Just Like That…, insiders predicted trouble with Sarah Jessica Parker.

“Cynthia’s great, but the thing is, she’s quite large and in charge, like her character Miranda,” says a source. “And off screen, Sarah’s used to being the boss. As much as the cast and crew were looking forward to seeing Cynthia in action, they were interested in seeing how it was going to turn out.”

Going by Woman’s Day’s new pictures of the longtime friends on set as they work on season two of the series, things aren’t exactly running smoothly.

“Sarah was getting all up in Cynthia’s face and talking animatedly,” reports an onlooker. “You could tell Cynthia wasn’t happy about it. She looked incredibly tense for the rest of the shoot and spent a lot of time having frantic but whispered conversations with the crew.”

Insiders say it was “probably just a case of creative differences” between Cynthia, 56, and Sarah, 57, who have been co-stars since Sex And The City launched in 1998.

“You can’t work together that long and not have an argument or two,” adds the source. “And let’s be honest, Sarah can be difficult at times.”

It’s not the first time Sarah has fallen foul of a co-star. Kim Cattrall famously refused to reprise her role as sexually free Samantha Jones in And Just Like That…, thanks to a feud with SJP.

When Kim’s brother died in 2018, she took offence at the public well-wishes from her former co-star.

“Let me make this very clear (if I haven’t already). You are not my family. You are not my friend,” she posted to Instagram. “So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”
