‘WE MET DOING KEG STANDS!’

The pair star as lovers in the rom-com Beautiful Wedding, now streaming on Prime Video

-

This is the sequel to last year’s Beautiful Disaster. How do you think fans will react to your characters Travis and Abby’s journey?

VIRGINIA I hope they’re happy with it and laugh their arses off. It’s certainly a lot more comedic than the first film. It’s unique in its tone. I hope people enjoy the amount of comedy we put into this film and the slapstick-ness of it all. How did you prepare for your roles second time around? DYLAN There’s always a little bit of prep involved with these kinds of movies because you’re usually in a bikini or shirtless, so you have to do

some training, but the good news is stepping back into a character you’ve already developed is just getting those wheels turning again. Did the chemistry and banter you’ve got come naturally?

VIRGINIA Dylan and I met many years ago at a party while I was doing my first keg stand. I think he was doing his first keg stand as well!

DYLAN Yeah, it was both of our first keg stands ever!

VIRGINIA We’ve been bonded for life because of that experience. We had so much fun making these movies and that translates on screen. It’s easy when you’re friends in real life.

Dylan, you’ve worked with

Cruel Intentions director Roger Kumble, who’s a big fan of improvisation. What’s that like?

DYLAN Because we’ve worked with each other for three movies now, Roger generally sets me in a direction and says, “Go with it!” We’ll do three or four takes and if he wants something different, he’ll pitch an improv idea and I run with it. Most of my lines in the comedic parts are frantically improvised. The important part about any good improv is that it must have a backbone or else it just feels chaotic. Can we expect a third film in the series?

DYLAN We’ve been strictly told we’re not allowed to answer that! Have you visited New Zealand?

DYLAN My wife Barbara [Palvin] and I want to go so badly because we want to do a Lord Of The Rings tour. We want to spend some time in the South Island. It’s on the top of our destination list.

VIRGINIA It’s one of my husband’s [The Struts bassist Jed Elliott] favourite places on Earth. He was trying to convince me to honeymoon there. He wanted to camp, but I just didn’t want to camp on my honeymoon, so we are going to do that trip next. It sounds amazing!
