PLANTING PLAN
1
RISING DAMP
Plant a medium-height screen along the northern boundary and keep trimmed to 2-3m to ensure plenty of sunlight for veges. Use a damp-tolerant species as this area may be boggy at times. Remove canna and arum lilies if they are encroaching onto your property as they can be invasive in moist conditions.
2 THE RIGHT HEIGHT
On eastern (and possibly western) boundaries plant a medium-height screen of flowering species to add more interest to the garden. Trim regularly to keep plants bushy but under 3m.
3
GREEN LINKS
Plant upright medium-height trees in both corners of the northern perimeter for additional screening and to provide a vertical connection with existing mature trees.
4
SHAPE UP
Emphasise shape of beds and make lawn easier to mow by edging with narrow metal, timber, brick or concrete border.
5
SEAT YOURSELF
Build a small deck in front of existing cabbage trees as a viewing platform for watching ball games and looking back at the garden.
6
FREE FORM
Plant easy-care, robust shrubs and perennials in gently curving beds along the front of screens to give the garden a look that works with the 1960s architecture of the house.
