SUGGESTED PLANTING PLAN

-

1

HOLD COURT Create a private courtyard area beside the deck to enjoy the fire pit. Get rid of the scruffy grass and cover ground with an all-weather surface such as the gravel and pavers shown. The gravel will need to be retained with some form of edging to prevent it spilling into garden and lawn. 2

TAKE A SEAT Position gabions or timber benches around the courtyard for seating. Soften with colourful outdoor cushions or squabs. 3 SOCIAL CLIMBERS Stain scruffy fence a dark colour to smarten it up while flowering climbers are trained up the sides to green up the garden. Retain existing roses in front and plant sunloving lush and/or scented shrubs and perennials around them. 4

IN FOCUS Plant a beautiful feature plant as a focal point in front of the fence at the far end of this area to be viewed from the deck. This keeps the focus in the garden. 5

PRETTY IT UP Plant a pretty flowering screen along the northern boundary, trimming it to a metre above the fence to ensure the garden has plenty of sun while giving privacy to the deck area. Another option is to interplant flowering trees with existing screen trees. 6

LUSH & LOVELY Beneath the tall screen, plant shadetolerant shrubs and perennials (taller ones at the back) to create a lush, layered garden to be enjoyed from the deck.
