Add an extra layer of pattern and texture to your bedroom with an easy-to-make bohemian wall hanging
A boho wall hanging
The bohemian look is back in a big way and fabric wall hangings are key to this decor trend. Layers of floaty fabrics, soft bedding, flowers and candles all combine to create spaces that feel cosy, feminine and good for the soul. A wall hanging has a relaxed, casual feel that suits a bedroom and can even take the place of a bedhead as the focal point. If buying one off the shelf, make sure to measure the wall it is to go on (or the width of the bed if it is to go above it) so you can choose a hanging that’s in proportion to the size of your room. A patterned design will always look best on a plain wall.
To make your own wall hanging, simply buy a large scarf or sarong, or pick up a piece of material that catches your eye at your local fabric shop. Look for a soft, floaty style such as silk, crepe or voile. We chose a silk design from The Fabric Store, sold in panels costing $14.99 each. We then simply attached it to the wall with small Velcro dots (you could also use small tacks or hooks). • Wall and floor painted in Resene ‘Island Spice’. Silk panel, $14.99, from The Fabric Store. Light, $29.90, from Citta Outlet. Living & Co Bowie side table, $29, Living & Co vase, $5, both from The Warehouse. Fruit punch lemonade candle, $7, from Cotton On. Frost cushion cover, $49.90, from Citta. Bellamy duvet cover set (white), from $159.90, Bellamy pillowcase set, $59.90, Matapouri quilt, from $169.90, Matapouri pillowcase, $34.90, all from Wallace Cotton. Anthuriums from Blush.
