IFAD-CASP launches wheat technology in Jigawa
THE INTERNA TIONAL FUND for Agricultural Development (IFAD) through its Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme (CASP) has launched a new wheat technology in Ringim Local government, Jigawa State.
According to the Local Government support Officer IFAD-CASP, Muftahu Abdul Sankara Turi, the innovation of the wheat technology was as a result of the visit of International Center for Agricultural Research In the Dry Areas (ICARDA) to the local government area in year 1997 where the team realized the Climate change challenges in Nigeria were similar to that of Jordan and Morocco where wheat is planted.
Turi said the aim of the technology was to ensure that wheat farming in the country was cost-effective and highly profitable.
“The major aim of the technology is to minimize cost and maximise profit,” Turi said.
Speaking on the technology, Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture in Jigawa State Alhaji Kabiru Ali expressed the state’s support to the project.
