NLI to hold webinar on rebuilding national value system
THE NIGERIA LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE (NLI) has announced that it would hold its inaugural webinar series on Saturday, October 3, 2020 with the theme, “Rebuilding Our National Value System.
The NLI which describes itself as an international, non-partisan organisation registered as a charity in Nigeria and in the United Kingdom, said its members are highly accomplished Nigerians living at home and in the Diaspora, comprising of leaders (Senior Fellows/Fellows), and emerging leaders (Associates), who are committed to playing a significant role in helping to transform Nigeria, promoting an understanding and appreciation of its foundational values, while also highlighting the importance of values-based leadership and followership.
A statement signed by Olusegun Aganga, former minister of trade and investment as founder, and Bashire Ibrahim Yusuf as chairman, organising committee, said NLI has about four hundred (400) highly accomplished members in its network, including former and serving members of the Federal Executive Council, CEOs of MDAs and private corporations, in and outside Nigeria.
“There is a growing consensus that our National Values System has broken down and that this has become a threat to values leadership and our national development. History has shown that the most successful companies and countries in the world are built on a set of core values. These become the foundation on which the nation is built. We cannot achieve sustainable economic growth and development unless we build on a solid foundation and develop community-spirited Nigerians who live these values. It is an investment in our greatest asset- Our People,” the statement read.
According to the group, the webinar would, among others, reference Nigeria’s history, enunciate and understand the values we had as Nigerians (during a nostalgic period commonly referred to as our “golden era”), examine our current situation (by identifying when our values system derailed, allowing us to understand how and why we got here), and discuss key steps required to rebuild the national values system. A significant objective of the webinar is to galvanize and energize citizens and policy makers, at all levels, to take a collective action regarding the development of a national values system; which will culminate into the proposition of a Bill to the National Assembly, policy formulation, and the development of an implementation plan that is also linked to our system for reward and national honours.
The NLI said the special guest of honour will be Gen. Yakubu Gowon, while Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would deliver the keynote address, it added that invitation has also been extended to such eminent persons as Ahmad Lawan. President of the Senate, Christopher Kolade (and NLI Patron), Olusegun O. Aganga, Wale Adebanwi, Joe Abah, Ibukun Awosika, John Momoh, Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, and Tunji Olaopa.
