Microsoft pays staff $1,500 for work in pandemic, trails Facebook, Google, Amazon

In recent times, more people have subscribed to social media platforms. The number was especially triggered by the last year’s pandemic which forced a lot of people take to social media as a result of lockdown hence, causing the number of Facebook, Instagram and Youtube users to grow amid the pandemic.

The number of Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram users, as the three most popular social media platforms globally, is expected to hit 5.7 billion this year and continue growing in the following years to reach 6.5 billion in 2023, data by Buyshares shows.

Over the years, Facebook, the leading social media app worldwide has seen an expansion in its user base. Statista Key Market Indicators data shows that the social media platform in 2019, reported over 2.1 billion active users. With the advent of the pandemic, causing a lot of people to spend time indoor and online, Facebook usgood Facebook, Youtube, Instagram to witness 800m increase in two years, hit 6.5bn by 2023 ers rose to nearly 2.3 billion. While this figure is expected to continue growing, it is projected to hit 2.4 billion in 2021 and 2.63 billion in 2023, a 340 million increase in three years.

Asia, which represent the region with the biggest Facebook audience worldwide accounted for over 1.1 billion Facebook users across all Asian markets - while America and Europe follow with 665 million and 385 million users - in 2021 and is expected to extend growth reaching 1.24 billion in 2023.

YouTube, which represent the world’s second-largest social media platform saw even more impressive growth as it accounted for 2.1 billion people worldwide with India accounting for the biggest share of the number at 373 million users in 2020 while United States
