PHCCIMA president meets Bangladeshi envoy, discuss business opportunities
MIKE ELECHI, PRESIDENT, PORT HAR COURT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, INDUSTRY, MINES AND AGRICULTUre (PHCCIMA), has continued his quest to open up new frontiers of opportunities and value for members of the chamber to harness and scale up their businesses and Rivers State at large, with his recent working visit to Masudur Rahman, the Bangladesh high commissioner to Nigeria, in Abuja aimed at enlarging business opportunities for PHCCIMA member companies. During the visit, Elechi and the high commissioner expressed their willingness to work closely and jointly to foster the huge trade and investment opportunities begging to be harnessed in the areas of textiles, leather, agriculture, ICT, shipping & marine resources, pharmaceuticals, fishing, power generation, ceramics, seaports and crude oil, refineries development, with the aim of addressing the perceived trade imbalances between both countries. The Bangladeshi envoy also promised to visit Rivers State to meet with the organised private sector (OPS) and also with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, following what he described as impressive imprints of governance by the Rivers State governor. In the course of the business meeting, they also agreed to implement the following decisions reached, such as to exchange memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the High Commission and other Bangladeshi chambers of commerce, list PHCCIMA member companies interested in the identified huge business opportunities in Bangladesh, and hold regular zoom meetings to link PHCCIMA member companies with their Bangladeshi counterparts. Other decisions reached include, to promote bilateral cooperation in shipping and the agricultural sectors between both countries, they also agreed to collaborate with PHCCIMA in all trade and investment activities including international trade fairs and exhibitions, to promote rural farming and development in Rivers State, and the high commissioner agreed to pay a facility visit to the chamber and the organised private sector, pledging to facilitate trade missions for PHCCIMA member companies. Meanwhile, Erasmus Chukunda, the director general of PHCCIMA, who accompanied the PHCCIMA president to the Bangladeshi High Commission also witnessed the exchange of souvenirs by both organisations.
