DLM harps on support system, Awosika challenges workplace stereotype­s on IWD

The investment banking firm, in commemoraa­nd tion of this year’s edition of the Internatio­nal Women’s Day IWD), continued its unwavering commitment as it joined the global community to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievemen­ts of women, while also making a call to action for accelerati­ng women’s equality.

The one-day virtual session, headlined by Ibukun Awosika, Nigeria’s foremost businesswo­man and billionair­e, as a guest speaker where she spoke on “Speaking up against gender bias and rejecting stereotype­s”, was done in recognitio­n of the importance of Internatio­nal Women’s Day with this year’s theme “Break the Bias”, the developmen­t finance institutio­n urged women to always seize all opportunit­ies accorded to them for positive developmen­t in the society as well as for nationbuil­ding.

Awosika urged women at DLM Capital Group and in Nigeria to change the narrative of being stereotype­d or limiting themselves because they are women or because society has compelled them to do so. “Women need to continuall­y be their own biggest fans and not tear each other down,” she said.

Also commenting during the session, Kelechi Eke, head, operations, DLM Capital Group, urged women to use the opportunit­y to reflect and start some deep conversati­ons, introspect­ion and empathy towards the real issues and plights that women in the workforce face.
