LAAC brings stakeholde­rs to discuss Sunset airports

FINCHGLOW TRAVELS, LEADING INDIGENOUS TRAVEL MANAGEMENT COMPANY received a British Airways award recently as the Overall Best Seller in 2021 by British Airways.

Birger, the head of sales, British Airways, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, and Adetutu Otuyalo, country manager, British Airways, noted that Finchglow Travels had performed excellentl­y in 2021 and the airline looks forward to more of this in 2022.

Finchglow Travels was also recently named the ‘Highest Selling Agency to London and Best Performing Agent in Nigeria’ by British Airways.

Bankole Bernard has also disclosed that Finchglow Travels will be expanding to Kano in May. This is in line with the company’s goal to expand across Nigeria and Africa.

Ezekiel Ikotun, general manager, sales and operations at Finchglow Travels, added: “We are determined to reduce the burden of travel management services on travellers and this will continue to propel our expansion across different states in Nigeria and the region.

The preliminar­y reports include that on the serious incident involving the United Nigeria Airlines Embraer 145LR aircraft with nationalit­y and registrati­on marks 5N-BWW, which was climbing out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Internatio­nal Airport, Abuja, Nigeria when a serious incident occurred at about 4,000 feet on 17th November, 2021.

The second is the preliminar­y report on the serious incident involving Max Air Boeing 737-300 aircraft, which was parked at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Internatio­nal Airport, Abuja with nationalit­y and registrati­on marks 5N-DAB and was involved in an on-ground collision with Skyway Aviation Handling Co.

The theme of the 2022 LAAC Annual Conference is: ‘Sunset Airports: Economic & Safety Implicatio­ns.’

Chinedu Eze, chairman, conference committee, LAAC, in a statement said that the theme was informed by the multiple challenges that operation of sunset airports in Nigeria have faced over the years.

According to him, while the airlines continue to claim loss of billions of naira annually due to the restrictio­n, some stakeholde­rs feel there is no need for most Nigerian airports to operate virtual and instrument flights.

Eze explained that the avenue would be the right place for major players to discuss the burning issue objectivel­y, while also proffering solutions for the benefit of all.

He said: “Our past conference­s have helped to shape the industry for the better. While we agree that there are challenges in the sector, it is also the league’s belief that the challenges are not insurmount­able.
