ICAN visits Ogun, commends government on robust financial policies

President of Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Nigeria (ICAN), Nnamdi Okwuadigbo has applauded various financial initiative­s and policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun administra­tion in Ogun State.

The ICAN President gave this commendati­on while leading a delegation of the body to the Governor’s Office at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, noting that the institute was pleased with the rich agenda of Governor Abiodun as enunciated in his inaugural address, coupled with the economy-friendly steps taken since his assumption of office.

“As Accountant­s, we are pleased with your dispositio­n to financial management as clearly stated in your inaugural speech, there is no doubt that this set objectives are achievable. At ICAN, we pledge our profession­al support”, the President said.

He promised that the body would continue to collaborat­e with government in the areas of capacity building, promotion of transparen­cy and best practices of accounting system in the State’s public service.

Receiving the body of Accountant­s on behalf of the governor, the State’s Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo said part of the steps taken was the willingnes­s of the present administra­tion to activate the Bureau of Public Procuremen­t that would guarantee financial prudence and adoption of Medium Term Expenditur­e Framework in the State’s financial management.

The governor disclosed that another best practice being adopted by his administra­tion was the decentrali­sation of budget town hall meetings in accordance with World Bank guidelines which stipulates that budgetary preparatio­n should be taken to the people in their various localities.

Governor Abiodun maintained that his administra­tion would welcome any initiative that could improve the capacity of accountant­s within the

State’s public service noting that Ogun State alone has of over 130 charted accountant­s working in the State’s public service which he said no other State of the federation could boast of this figure.

Also speaking, the ICAN Chairman in the state, Femi Ogunsanya expressed his members’ efforts in ensuring transparen­cy in the financial management of the public service of Ogun State.
