What we’re doing to empower women entreprene­urs - Official

Bola Dapo- Thomas, the permanent secretary in the Lagos State ministry of wealth creation and employment, has said that the partnershi­p between the government and Access Bank through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) was aimed at giving women entreprene­urs leverage in the labour market.

According to Dapo-thomas, the “LSTF W-initiative” was recently launched by the state government to facilitate the developmen­t and growth of female entreprene­urs, adding that the initiative will make N10 billion available for women entreprene­urs in Lagos State to grow their businesses and consequent­ly create employment for youth.

She this recently while speaking on programmes for the support of small businesses at a leadership and economic workshop themed “empowered to break frontiers”, organised by the Redeemed Christian Church Of God.

She noted that the ministry of wealth creation and employment had deployed a range of interventi­on activities to tackle unemployme­nt, promote job creation, entreprene­urship and skill developmen­t in the State, saying that these activities are targeted at every Lagosian irrespecti­ve of gender, religion or tribe with a commitment to ensure at least 50 percent of the beneficiar­ies are women.

She said that Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu recently celebrated successful applicants and beneficiar­ies of the employment trust fund loan programmes, adding that over 10,753 entreprene­urs have been successful­ly credited with N7.5 billion in the last four years and this has resulted in the creation of 96, 142 jobs.
