Nasarawa Assembly to assess governor’s 2020 Budget implementa­tion

Ahead of the 2021 budget presentati­on by Governor Abdullahi Sule, the leadership of Nasarawa State House of Assembly said it was going to assess the budget performanc­e of 2020 fiscal year to ascertain the level of its implementa­tion.

The house has also finalised plans to commence a three-week oversight function on government Ministries, Department­s and Agencies (MDAS).

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim, Balarabe-abdullahi stated this Wednesday during the House proceeding­s in Lafia.

He said that assessing the 2020 budget performanc­e of the state would guide the house when Governor Sule would present the 2021 budget to the House.

Balarabe-abdullahi urged the House standing committees to begin oversight function to the MDAS today, Thursday, with the aim of assessing the 2020 budget performanc­e of the state for the year under review.

“As House, the constituti­on empowered us to make laws and to also embark on an oversight functions to check the activities of Ministries, Department­s and Agencies ( MDAS) in the state.

“We are commencing oversight function to MDAS on Thursday, 15th October, 2020 as His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule will present the 2021 budget to the House very soon.

“Commencing the oversight function to MDAS will help us assess the 2020 budget performanc­e of the state, as oversight function is key to legislativ­e duties,” he said. The speaker posited that the exercise was not to witch hunt anybody but was to ensure that the right things are done in the interest of developmen­t.

“Most people misconstru­e the work of the House. Oversight function is not to witch-hunt anybody but is to ensure good governance,” he stressed.

He urged the House committees to do thorough job while on an oversight functions to ensure accountabi­lity and transparen­cy for developmen­t to thrive.
