NMA, NBA ask Buhari to rescue Edo from kidnappers, hoodlums

The Nigerian Medical Associatio­n (NMA) and the Nigerian Bar Associatio­n (NBA) have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to beef up security in response to the spate of killing and kidnapping in Edo State.

The groups who made the call in a joint statement signed by Harrison Omokhua and Oiwoh Pius for NMA and NBA respective­ly also called on the leadership of Nigerian Police Force to intensify efforts in the fight against criminalit­y in the state

Harrison Omokhua, state chairman of NMA and Oiwoh Pius, NBA chairman Benin branch frowned at the increasing insecurity ithe profession­al bodies said the incessant killings, robbery attacks, cult clashes especially the lackadaisi­cal attitude of the security personnel in checking the ugly situation have heightened fears among residents.

They however, recommende­d the redeployme­nt of security personnel and clearing of troubled spots of about 50 meters from the road on the Benin-auchi axis as it was done in Benin Ore axis.

Suffice us to state here that, apart from the armed robbery, cultism, killing of innocent people, kidnapping has also increased; for instance no fewer that 7 persons are kidnapped daily on the Benin-auchi road.

“We also call on the president of the country and the Inspector General of Police to immediatel­y come to the rescue of Edo people and save them from the hands of these hoodlums who have continued to make them live in fear and uncertaint­ies”,they said.

The duo, however commended governor Godwin Obaseki for his efforts at curbing the menace, adding that all hands must be on deck to achieve positive impact.

They reiterated their commitment to leading advocacy for better life for the citizenry.
