Importance of good support system
One of the tools that can help us navigate life is a strong support system, one which we utilise when we need it the most. A strong social support system can help us accomplish our goals or deal with a crisis. Cultivating a support system takes time but we need to be willing and ready to invest that time.
Support systems are an essential part of our productivity as individuals either at home or the workplace or in our businesses. Having a great support system ensures that we are always maintaining organisation and routine and constantly building structure in our space. The advantages of a good support system and not talked about enough. A key part to improving and getting better while dealing with a stress or setback is having a support system.
The different types of support systems range from our colleagues and co-workers at our workplace, our employees and our domestic staff. A good colleague/co-worker at a workplace helps you brainstorm ideas, figure out setbacks and can help you achieve your daily deliverables too. Consistency and Growth is an essential part of being a good employee. To build consistency and growth while also delivering optimum productivity at your workplace, you need the support of your co-workers because a toxic work environment does not encourage profitable productivity and optimal work level.
As an employer or CEO in an organisation your support system are your employees. Do they help you? Are they delivering on their daily tasks? Do you have to micromanage them? Are they available to completely invest their time and experiences in building the organisation and achieving the organisation’s missions and vision? These are essential questions that need to be answered. If you have a good support system, there will be absolutely no need for you to micromanage your employees.
At home your domestic staff, either the Nanny or your housekeeper or both are essential to your growth as a person. There is a need for good support if you are to achieve your goals as a parent in other areas of your life.
How do you ensure you have a good support system? Communicate: lay down the do’s and don’t, talk about everything and anything to avoid assumptions; Be honest with them: Be honest with them both about what is wrong and what you need from them. Remember to be direct, in a kind way, to further ensure you are getting the support you want and need; Be open to feedback, even if it’s not always what you want to hear. The best supporters will tell you the truth and help you see your options from different perspectives; Show your appreciation; Communicate your boundaries: Establishing your expectations and needs will prevent misunderstandings later and help everyone feel respected; Know when a relationship isn’t working for you. If you find that you are drained instead of more productive, you need to end that support. Remember, those in your support system should help you reduce stress, not increase it. They should support your goals and efforts to achieve them
Support is a two-way street. Once you identify the main supporters in your life, do your best to build those relationships. Connect with them regularly. We turn to our social supports in times of need, and so they need to also be dependable.
Support systems are set in place so you have a group of people and activities that can offer you strict yet inspiring assistance on your journey. We need one another to survive and grow because it’s impossible to do everything alone. This is especially true while going through life’s challenges.
