Group trains students, teachers on climate change, MDG goals
Atwo- day capacity building workshop for teachers and students designed to help them become climate active citizens and earth protector ambassadors with leadership skills for the promotion of the sustainable development goals has been organised in Ogun State.
The workshop was jointly organised by Eco Diversified Network, Brace up the young, Five Cowries Educational Foundation and the Girls4 Leadership, with each providing facilitators and facilities for the training.
The event which was held by the Noble House College, Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Abeokuta Ogun State Nigeria, featured three private schools, namely; Noble House College, Abeokuta, Africa Church Grammar School, Yetuns International College, Abeokuta was attended by 35 students and several teachers.
The first day of the training involves the students taught on building skill sessions and practical activities on how the students and teachers can become excellent team players with more emphasis on the importance of relying on cooperation to achieve common goals.
While the participants were also introduced to the sustainable development goals and global development plans, like the MDGS and the SDGS using practical activities on how they could key into the promotion of the 2030 global agenda for sustainable development.
Participants were also exposed to the importance of nature, human continued existence, and how our activities can affect nature.
The workshop also involved students and teachers taught how to express themselves using art to promote sustainable development goals, while art educators from the Five Cowries Art Educational Initiative exposed them on the basics of wall painting.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Ogun State, Abayomi Arigbabu, who was represented by Onayiga Adeshola, charged the students to be an advocate for the promotion of climate actions, while taking up the messages to other students in their schools and even their parents.
