TN cont i nued to boost its earnin g s through growth in voice and data. At the end of 2020 financial year, revenue from voice grew from N0.725 billion in 2019 to N0.766 billion. The company generated N0.332 billion from data, up from N0.219 billion in 2019 while revenue from SMS fell from N0.612 billion to N0.012 billion. The rise in voice and data revenue helped the ICT-IT giant achieve increase in total revenue from N1.16 trillion in 2019 to N1.34 trillion in 2020 full year. Profit after tax increased from N203.8 billon to N205.21 billion while earning per share rose to N 10.08 from

N9.99.

For the 2021 Q1, revenue was up to N385.31 billion from N329.17 billion. Profit after tax increased from N51.74 billion to N73.74 billion as earning per share grew from N2.54 billion to N3.62 billion.

The upward trend in performanc­e did not however shield MTN from the

ICT- TEL COM SERV general market downturn as its share price lost 0.54 percent between January and April 2021.

The company reports one of the highest return on equity at 117 percent followed by Nestle with 105 percent.

MTN’S high return on equity is due to the company’s high marginal efficiency of capital.

AIRTEL

Airtel’s strong performanc­e in the financial year ended March 2021 gave its stock a head start for the year. The comoany’s voice revenue rose to $2.08 billion up from $1.97billion in 2020. Revenue from data grew from $930 million to
