2023: PDP’S situation put Labour Party as the biggest threat to APC - Okechukwu

-

OSITA Okechukwu, the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and chieftain of the All Progressive Party (APC), said on Monday that the ruling party cannot rely on the power of incumb e n c y t o retain power. Acknowledging the growing influence of the Labour Party, he also advised that his party respond appropriately to threats from the “OBIDIENT” movement in the coming general election of 2023.

The Director General of VON was reacting to questions on Arise TV about his party’s chances of retaining power in 2023.

He said: “That if power had been in the north for the past seven years, going to eight years, that it should also be in the south. But we said no. We have the powers, we have competent governors, we have competent personalities in the north who could have been our presidential candidate, but we said no. I think for me, it is a big achievement that we did in the interest of the corporate existence of our dear country because if there is no Nigeria, there is nobody who will become a president.

He also presented the readiness of his party to ensure its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, wins next year’s election by assembling one of the biggest campaign councils in the history of the country to win the election.

“And the issue of our campaign council, for God’s sake, 422 people, eminent Nigerians, are members of our political party. For me, he genuinely and candidly represents our 41 million members of the APC, who cannot all be members of the presidential campaign council, and there is one presidency,” he added. “If the presidency is the chairman, it will be untidy to make the vice president the vice chairman. It then means that we have abandoned governance, as Festus Keyamo said, so please let’s not bother ourselves about the presidential campaign council.

“What of some of us? We were presidential campaign council of the defunct APP, defunct ANPP, defunct CPC, and defunct APC when we took off, but they were people who never voted for the APC that came and took over offices more juicier than ours.”

“So because you are not a member of the PCC does not determine what happens when we win the election. So I think the most important thing we should all work towards is how to win the election because we have upgraded the VRV, which means we cannot just go to sleep thinking we are going to win. We must be afraid of some other forces, especially the “OBI-DIENT MOVEMENT”.
