Nasarawa : NGO trains 160 youths on promoting peaceful election

-

YOUNG Leaders Network (YLN), an NGO on Thursday began training of no fewer than 160 youths in Nasarawa State on promoting peace during the 2023 general elections.

Moses Danjuma-kusko, Programme Manager, YLN, made the disclosure at the Peace Ambassador workshop in Lafia, organised for youth groups in the state.

He said workshop organised in collaboration with National Endorsement for Democracy was geared towards the promotion of peace in order to achieve peaceful conduct of general elections.

Danjuma-kusko said the workshop became imperative considering the fact that young people were most vulnerable and often perpetrators of electoral violence.

“Peace ambassador workshop is geared towards promoting peaceful elections, we want to see how we can push for young people to become advocates of peace during and after the general elections.

“This is happening in four local government areas of the state — Lafia, Doma, Keffi and Akwanga, and we are training 40 youths in each of these local government areas.

“We are working with communities youth groups in each of these LGAS to promote peaceful election through various initiatives,” he said.

Danjuma-kusko explained that participants would be exposed to the consequence of several electoral offences embedded in the new electoral Act.

“We are taking a session on choosing credible leaders in 2023 election. We found out that the problem we are having in Nigeria and Africa generally is leadership problem,” he said.

Some participants at the training, Shehu Gambo and Hannatu Godiya, commended YLN for organising the training particularly at electioneering period leading the 2023 general elections.

They promised to carry on the baton of peace advocacy as well as train others in their communities.
