Qatar 2022: Injury worries grow as fans countdown to first golf-state world cup

- By John Salau

WITH just seven days to the first golf-state football fiesta Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, fans are increasingly worried with the growing number of players that might be missing out due to injury worries.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will kick off on the 20th of November, with France gearing up to defend the title they won last four years in Russia.

as teams rush to beat the FIFA deadline for Monday 14 November, some notable names will be missing in the trip to Qatar.

Paul Pogba and N’golo Kante headline a list of top players not included in the French team as head coach Didier Deschamps left out several big names after he named his 25-man squad for the World Cup.

Despite playing a vital role in France’s World Cup triumph four years ago in Russia, the two will play no role in the team’s campaign to defend the crown.

Pogba was left out due to a knee injury which has seen him miss the better part of the new season, while Kante is nursing a hamstring injury.

“The growing numbers of injury worries have called to question Qatar hosting right of the FIFA world cup. Teams used to have a minimum of 30 days break before the world cup. But, Qatar 2022 was moved to November/december by FIFA because of weather,” said Dare Philips, football fan in Lagos

according to him, players will hardly get two weeks of break before the world cup in Qatar, which might even affect the quality of play. “Many of these player will suffer from burn out and fatigue,” he said.

Meanwhile, France are in Group D of the World Cup alongside Denmark, Tunisia, and australia.

There is also an injury blow to Senegal as the Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane picked up a recent injury that might ruled him out of the group stages of the World Cup.

however, Mane might have little to nothing to contribute to the Senegalese world cup tourney should the team fail to make it out of the group stage, even though head coach alou Cisse had indicated his desire to have him included in the final 26 man squard.
