Wema bank partners PHCCIMA on SME Business School in PH
A business school approach to training has been floated for small and medium scale entrepreneurs in the Niger Delta by Wema Bank, in collaboration with Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA).
The partners organized a weeklong SME Business School to educate entrepreneurs on how to grow their businesses, according to a report by the PHCCIMA’S media division.
In his opening speech, the Executive Director of Wema Bank in South-south and South East region, Emeka Obiagwu, who welcomed participants said that the event was part of it’s corporate social responsibility.
He congratulated the participants saying that they were carefully selected as business owners in the region to broaden their business ideas.
The Wema Bank ED also commended PHCCIMA for partnering with the bank for the success of the event.
In an interview with Journalists, the PHCCIMA President, Mike Elechi, a monarch and Knight, expressed satisfaction on the quality of resource persons and the entire process of the programme.
He described the event as business clinic for entrepreneurs and charged participants to make good use of the opportunity which he said was aimed at bringing in innovation and ideas on how to grow their businesses.
The PHCCIMA President also thanked Wema Bank for the choice of Port Harcourt for such training programme as part of their CSR and called on Rivers people and residents of the city to do well in patronizing the bank.
The Eze, who is the MD/ CEO of Vintage Farms and Products said the effect of the SME business school on Rivers economy cannot be overemphasized. The Knight added that the participants were all CEOS of their various companies in Port Harcourt and if they made good use of what was thought at the school, it would have good impart on the state economy.
The week long SME business school holding at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Port Harcourt is expected to end on Friday, November 19, 2022, where certificates would be issued to deserving participants.
Businessday gathered that it was Wema Bank’s fourth edition of its SME Business School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The scheme which was launched in Lagos 2021 is said to be designed to help build capacity for SMES in the country.
The second edition was said to have taken place took place virtually, while the third edition happened in Abuja. Now making its journey to the South-south geopolitical zone of the country, the initiative is said to have helped to equip SMES in various parts of the country with the business management knowledge and skills required to effectively run their enterprises and respond to the ever-evolving challenges of today’s business world.
According to the Divisional Head of Retail Business at Wema Bank, Dotun Ifebogun, Wema SME Business School was birthed in a bid to close the critical knowledge gap in the SME space in Nigeria, and each edition of the programme takes place in a different part of the country to ensure that SMES all around the country participate and benefit.
He disclosed that the bank has collaborated with topnotch consultants from renowned organizations within and outside Nigeria, including Deloitte, Facebook (Meta), and Nexford University, to serve as facilitators on the programme and ensure that the participants get an immersive and invaluable learning experience.
