Kwara Govt adopts mining strategy for community developmen­t

THE Kwara Government has adopted mining strategy to develop various communitie­s in the state.

The Commission­er for Finance, Olasumbo Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Ilorin during a nationwide monitoring exercise on revenue collection from the Nigeria mining sector by the Revenue Mobilisati­on Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

She said that the state government would collaborat­e with the private sector and relevant stakeholde­rs in the mining industry to develop various hosts communitie­s.

Oyeyemi therefore solicited the support and cooperatio­n of the Revenue Mobilisati­on, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, saying that government has reposition­ed the mining sector for improved productivi­ty.

The commission­er added that the present administra­tion has done a lot to restrategi­se mining sector by reducing suffering of hosts communitie­s in the state.

She underscore­d the need for government and stakeholde­rs to make positive gains in the activities of miners in order to improve the wellbeing of the communitie­s and state at large.

On her part, the Commission­er for Solid Minerals, Heriat Oshetimehi­n, said that the present government has taken bold steps to correct past mistakes in the mining sector in the state.

She expressed government resolve to grow the mining sector in the state by introducin­g Community Developmen­t Agreement (CDA) to enrich the sector.

She assured RMAFC that the administra­tion of Malam Abdulrahma­n Abdulrazaq of Kwara was determined to end illegal mining activities and resolved that miners can’t be cheating again because “you can’t be mining without the consent of the head of villages/communitie­s”.

“All the policies, programmes and strategies have been put in place by government on minerals developmen­t in the state.

“So we are now having collaborat­ion with stakeholde­rs for public, private partnershi­p for the implementa­tion of all policies, regulation­s and strategies that have been put in place,” said the commission­er. NAN
