PWDS get wheelchairs, walking aid equipment from DELSUTH

- By Mercy Enoch, Asaba

THE Association of Persons With Disabilities (PWDS), Ethiope West Local Government Area in Delta State, have been empowered with the wheelchairs and other walking equipment by the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara.

This is the second time in six months they would receive such assistance from the tertiary health institution, as part of the hospital’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) to its host community.

Donating the items, Nekwu

Okolugbo, the chief medical director (CMD) of DELSUTH, urged them to make judicious use of the equipment and promised to always support them the more.

The professor of Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgery, told them that Sheriff Oborevwori-led Administration is for all Deltans and advised them to always support the State Government.

He said he decided to give the equipment to them following a letter written to his office and he immediately responded to aid their movement from one place to the other.

Okolugbo had during the previous donation told them that he preferred giving them the equipment as it was more sustainable than giving them money, and had assured that more of such gestures would come continue to come if they judiciously use the equipment.

Responding, Boyo Ediyeri, Chairman, Association of PWDS, Ethiope West LGA Chapter, thanked the CMD for always standing by them.

He recalled how the Association had been writing letters to the hospital to assist them with wheel chairs and other tools to aid their movement but to no avail until Okolugbo assumed office.

“Prof Okolugbo is from Delta North Senatorial District and he responded to our heart-cry but when our own people were at the helm of affairs in the DELSUTH, they never cared for us.

“This CMD has been of great help to us since he came on board over a year ago. His Administration has given both the host communities and the hospital staffers a leap owing to his benevolence”, he said.

He assured the CMD that the Association would make good use of the equipment donated to them.
