CAA urges government to tackle climate change impacts

- By Chinwe Michael

NIGERIA faces significant threats from climate change, including rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and environmental degradation, according to Climate Action Africa (CAA), an advocate for climate resilience and sustainable development.

At a recent climate change media briefing in Lagos, Grace Mbah, executive director at CAA, called for a more impactful and inclusive approach to tackling these challenges.

Mbah stressed the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders, including government, industry leaders, scientists, community organisations, and individual citizens.

The briefing highlighted areas for collaboration such as policy development and implementation, innovation and technology, community mobilisation, education, and investment and financing. These areas will be central to the upcoming Climate Action Africa Forum (CAA24) scheduled from June 19-20 in Lagos.

The forum aims to bring together key stakeholders from across Africa to discuss innovative solutions and develop concrete action plans for tackling climate change.

Mbah during the event disclosed that a key feature will be the Deal Room, designed to connect Africa’s brightest innovators with investors to accelerate impactful deals for climate action and sustainable development.

Following the conference, CAA will partner with the Founder Institute, a startup accelerator, to provide ongoing support to African innovators.

Mbah sees CAA24 as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, collaborative problem-solving, and forging strategic partnerships.

“By working together, we can ensure that Nigeria, and Africa as a whole, emerges as a leader in building a sustainable and climate-resilient future,” said Mbah.
