CSS redefines learning with new building etched in modern architectu­re

THE saying that man is a product of his environmen­t was, perhaps, part of the considerat­ions that went into the design and developmen­t of a new building by the authoritie­s of Corona Secondary School (CSS) which it unveiled recently.

The three-floor structure is a redefiniti­on of learning in a comfy and convenient environmen­t which, according to the 69-year-old institutio­n, represents its mission to groom the next generation of leaders that will be fit-for-purpose in Nigerian economy.

The eco-friendly building, located in the Abijo, Lekki area of Lagos, sits on 1,500 square meters of land with 15 classrooms equipped with interactiv­e screens for optimal learning. It also has laboratori­es, a cafeteria, a meeting room for staff members, a lift, a ramp, and other complement­ary amenities for students with special needs.

The new building, according to Raliat Adebiyi, chairman of the school’s Trust Council Governing Board, is what the school requires at the moment in order to produce well-rounded students who are ready to face the challenges of their time.

The structure boasts CCTV, fire alarms, and access control which ensures that only eligible students and staff gain access to the building.

According to Kikelomo Adewolu, infrastruc­ture and developmen­t manager of the school, the building is not only technologi­cally innovative, but also conveys an a luxurious ambience that students of this generation and generation­s to come world learn in.

“In putting the designs of the building together, we considered the environmen­t and so, solar panels were installed; we looked at inclusion which is why the building comes with an elevator; we have a ramp and a toilet to cater for children who are physically challenged,” Adewolu said.

Adewolu disclosed that the new project comes with an alternativ­e power solution, an extra low voltage system, fire suppressio­n and fighting systems, adding that the project has a bio-reactor sewage plant which suaves sewage naturally, ventilatio­n and lighting.

Adeyoyin Adesina, CEO of the schools’ Trust Council, said they are leveraging technologi­cal advancemen­ts such as robotics is essential in modern-day teaching and learning because it plays a pivotal role in preparing students for future career opportunit­ies.

Adesina noted that the school management has, over the past 69 years of the school’s existence, ensured a consistent engagement with parents on the delivery of education to their children.

To her, the state-of-theart building is part of the school’s commitment­s to high standards of always providing a conducive and convenient environmen­t for learning.
