Live, Work, Cook, Play, Sleep, Eat.
With space at a premium and high rents, studio apartments in the centre of town would be highly appreciated by singles and anyone who wants a city pad to live in during the working week. But how can a space be configured for work, sleep, play, eat, cook and all the myriad other activities required for daily living?
This 24 square metre studio apartment by Tatiana Shishkina can give inspiration to landlords or developers who have buildings with high ceilings. By creating a platform where the bedroom can be situated, the available floor (living) area is increased while demarcating a very important private space.
On the ‘top floor’ is the bedroom which is divided into wardrobe area, bed space and a study area with chair and table. Downstairs is a sitting area, kitchen and bathroom facilities.
Here all the emphasis is on creating the illusion of space and this means multifunctional design. We can see how the partition slats are used both to demarcate the kitchen space and at the same time create a frame for the staircase.
One very interesting angle to the décor is that contrary to the conventional wisdom that white is the right colour for confined spaces, here the designer has used dark gray and black colours …and it works! The reflective surfaces, bold dark colors and shining metal accents create visually dramatic impact and sophisticated atmosphere.
