Ndimi to set up solar plant in Borno

- Hamza Idris, Maiduguri

BUSINESS mogul and Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Limited Alhaji Mohammed Ndimi yesterday in Maiduguri said he is prepared to fight poverty in Borno State and has gone into partnership with Spanish and Saudi Arabian investors to establish solar power plant that will fast track industrial development in the state.

Indimi, quoted by Forbes among the richest people in Africa ( worth $ 600million), said he has business interest all over the world, but lamented that poor power supply and the Boko Haram crisis have deprived him of the opportunity to invest in his home state.

Ndimi stated this when he unveiled his plan during a visit to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House in Maiduguri. He was accompanied by Mr Tariq Mumtaz, Head of Investment and Business Development, Al- Qahtani and Sons Ltd, Saudi Arabia and Jose M Trevino, Executive Vice Chairman of Aurinka International, Spain.

Indimi said apart from power generation, he plans to engage in manufacturing industries and youth empowerment.

He showered encomiums on Governor Shettima for standing by his people at the height of the Boko Haram crisis. “I am here to complement your effort. Let me know whenever any investor is coming, I can invest in that venture, I have the money,” he said.

“I am an investor, I invest all over the world but because of our challenges here in Borno, I have been waiting for the past two or three years to come and complement the efforts of the governor, but wondered for how long I would keep on waiting.

“I know that our challenges are almost over and this is the right time to start. Charity begins at home. Our big problem in Borno is poverty, but right now, my foundation is working on youth empowerment and by next year, we would start with 500 youths. We would train, give them good salary and at the end give them certificates and help them our bosses are not happy. So, get jobs. they have redeployed him to
