IG sues Yerima, 29 others

- Shehu Umar, Gusau

The Inspector General of Police ( IGP) Muhammad Dahiru Abubakar has sued Senator Sani Ahmad and 29 others to a High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State over alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery attack.

The prosecuting counsel Mr. Torugbene Oloye has filed an application before the court to institute the said charges against Senator Ahmad former governor of the state and also the senator representing Zamfara West senatorial district.

The presiding Judge Justice Kulu Aliyu said, although the court has the jurisdiction to hear the case, but adjourned it to January 13, 2014 for mention. She said it is dependent on when the prosecuting counsel will produce 30 copies of the arraignment notice served to the accused and signed by them before the court.

Counsel to the defendants Barrister Sani Katu said the application made by the complainant is in order, since they are not expected to take laws in to their hands, adding that they would adequately prepare for their defence before the court resumes hearing.

It would be recalled that in September this year, the member representing Gusau/ Tsafe federal constituency Hon. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau had escaped lynching in Gusau by thugs believed to be mobilized by some politicians in the state over his presumed gubernatorial ambition.
