NDLEA nabs father of 13 with Indian hemp
IN Kano State, a 60- year- old father of 13, Danjuma Kadiri has been arrested with 132 kilogrammes of Indian hemp well packaged like loaves of bread, while ferrying the substance to Bauchi State.
He was arrested by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) along Kano/ Zaria road in a Mercedes Benz. The substance was well arranged in the booth of the car and in the passengers’ seats.
It was gathered that the suspect was able to beat security in Edo and many states he drove through, as security men he met on the way mistook the substance for loaves of bread.
However he fell into the net of the NDLEA officials along Kano/ Zaria road following a tip off.
Speaking to newsmen at the headquarters of the NDLEA in Kano, Kadiri however denied being an Indian hemp peddler, saying he was only engaged by one Danladi who is based in Bauchi State.
“I didn’t know it was Indian hemp. I was engaged in Edo State to deliver it in Bauchi by one Danladi. He told me that it was goods and not Indian hemp. He hired me for N120,000 and I’m a driver. It is only God that can save me from this problem,” he said.
The NDLEA officials told Weekly Trust that Kadiri was intercepted based on intelligence reports gathered by the agency.
The Commander of NDLEA in Kano, Malam Garba Ahmadu said the suspect will be prosecuted.
