Yabatech governing council exonerates rector

-

Amina Alhassan & Bamas Victoria THE Federal Ministry of Education, the office of Inspector General of Police and the Governing Council of Yaba College of Technology have absolved the institution’s rector, Dr. Margret Kudirat Ladipo, of allegations of corruption.

The rector who has been the subject of series of petitions was accused among other things of rewarding contracts to members of the governing council to facilitate her appointment for a second tenure.

A five-man committee led by Hon. Shehu Ibrahim Kagara submitted the report which cleared the rector, while the secretary of the governing council, Biekoroma Amakapabo, noted that the council was satisfied with the findings of the committee that the allegations were “mischief meant to malign the character of the rector.”

A statement signed by the institution’s director of public relations, Mr. Charles Oni, said that she got her second term “purely on the basis of merit, of her exceptional achievements in her first tenure in office.”

On the issue of N5 million security vote, Mr. Oni clarified that it was not ‘strange’ for chief executives to have security votes, that the institution was confronted with security challenge, adding that it was “appropriately approved by the governing council of the college.”

Mr. Oni said that the management of the institutions is still waiting for the police to take action against those defaming the rector “so as to put an end to the unnecessary distractions and embarrassment.”

The Ministry of Education and the office of the inspector general of Police in 2013 and 2014 respectively also found the allegations to be baseless and lacking in credibility.
