Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has directed the state Commissioner for Works, Lawan Shettima Ali, to immediately assess and submit a proposal for building a tarred road from Garin Alkali, near Gashu’a town to Gwio-Kura village in Bade Local Government Area of the state.

The governor gave the directive during an inspection visit to Government Secondary School Gwio-Kura which is one of three secondary schools being renovated and upgraded by his administration.

“I am directing the commissioner of works to immediately set to work by bringing forward a proposal for the construction of a road to this community. Even if this is not captured in the 2017 budget, we will do a supplementary budget to accommodate it. In addition to the road, we will undertake an electrification project from Garin Alkali to Gwio-Kura to Jaba Towns in the 2018 budget”, the governor said.

Gaidam praised the quality of ongoing work at GSS Gwio-Kura, saying students in the school had suffered untold hardship in the past due to lack of dormitories, classes and other essential facilities.

The governor also directed the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammad Lamin, to review and improve students’ feeding in the school “because you cannot study well when your stomach is empty”.

Alhaji Lamin said 90 percent of the structures under construction at GSS GwioKura was new.

“The new structures being put in place include an admin block, biology, chemistry and physics labs, kitchen and dining hall, six blocks of student hostels, six blocks of 12 two-bedroom intermediate staff housing, two sets of 16 compartment VIP latrines, 2-km long perimeter fence and gatehouse, and a senior staff quarters for the principal,” he said.

Leader of the Gwio-Kura community, Alhaji Ibrahim Jauro, thanked the governor for helping children in the area access quality education.
